Response to Intervention Services

Meeting Student Needs. For All Learners.

Across America, schools are implementing Response to Intervention, or RtI, as part of the IDEA reauthorization. Response to Intervention is a comprehensive instructional approach that combines assessment and intervention within a multi-level instructional system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. With RtI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide research-based interventions and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student's success.

In a typical three-tiered implementation model for RtI, Tier One is focused on providing powerful and differentiated instruction in the student's classroom. Teachers need strategies to identify misunderstanding early, re-teach in meaningful ways that help the student to gain understanding, and to manage students in ways that support individual success. Using data, ongoing assessment, differentiation techniques, and gaining support from PLCs are all critical aspects of Tier One success.

  • RTI Tier One: Using Data to Differentiate Instruction
This Institute has two over-arching goals: 1) To deepen understanding of the research-based instructional approaches and strategies that inform and scaffold standards-based, data-driven instructional planning and decision-making; and, 2) To enhance the capacity of instructional leaders to implement, support, and sustain an effective lesson-planning model to improve teaching practice and differentiated student learning.
